  • Color the Frosting
Dye the buttercream frosting leaf green. Fill a piping bag fitted with a 1A tip.
  • Make Frankenstein’s Face
Pipe the outline of Frankenstein’s head onto the board. Keep piping back-and-forth lines until the face is filled in. Hold the piping bag just above the board and let the icing fall into place—don’t drag it.
  • Smooth It Out
Use an offset spatula to gently smooth the surface of the green frosting.
  • Add the Hair
Tint the leftover green frosting black. Transfer it to a piping bag fitted with a 2D star tip. Pipe Frankenstein’s spiky hair across the top, holding the bag slightly above the surface.

  • Make the Eyes
Twist apart 2 vanilla sandwich cookies and place the cream-filled halves as eyes. Use two mini chocolate sandwich cookies as the pupils.
  • Draw the Face
Fill a third piping bag with black frosting and snip a small hole. Pipe on Frankenstein’s mouth, stitches, and scars.
  • Frame the Board
Surround Frankenstein’s face with pretzels and sandwich cookies for extra crunch.

👩‍👧‍👦 Parent Tip: Let younger kids handle the cookie and pretzel placement while older kids practice piping skills.

🍽️ Chef Tip: If your buttercream gets too soft, chill it for a few minutes before piping—it will hold its shape better.

Pro Tips for Success

• Keep the piping bag upright when filling in the face for even coverage.
• If you don’t have multiple tips, wash and reuse the same bag between colors.
• Use store-bought buttercream if you’re short on time.

Make This Frankenstein Board Your Own

• Swap in candy eyes instead of sandwich cookies.
• Add licorice for Frankenstein’s mouth or bolts.
• Try other Halloween colors like purple or orange for a fun twist.

Tips for Grown-ups Assisting

• Help kids with food coloring—it can stain little hands.
• Guide them on even pressure when piping.
• Pre-dye the frosting ahead of time for a faster setup.

Q: What can we dip into the board?
A: Pretzels, cookies, graham crackers, or even fruit slices work great.
