The ingredients needed to prepare the Tye Dye Cupcakes are as follows:

  • White Cake Mix. You will need one box of white cake mix, but the cake mix brand does not matter.
  • Eggs. You need three eggs to add to the cake mix.
  • Oil. Like the eggs, you will add the oil to the cake mix following the direction featured on the back of the box.
  • Gel Food Colors. Use tasty gel food colors. You can pick the three colors you like the most.
  • Powdered Sugar. The powdered sugar is a must-have for the homemade frosting that goes on the cupcakes.
  • Heavy Cream. Make sure to mix the powdered sugar with some heavy cream to give your frosting the right consistency.

A few other ingredients that you will need for the frosting include unsalted butter and shortening. If you do not have heavy cream, you can use coffee cream as a substitute, and it will work just as well.

Equipment Needed to Make the Tye-Dye Cupcakes

Besides having specific ingredients, you should also have some essential baking equipment to prepare the Tye dye Cupcakes. The equipment you will need includes:

  • Mixer. It does not matter if you use a hand mixer or a stand mixer as long as you have one of them.
  • Baking Cups. You will pour the cupcake batter into the baking cups before placing them in the oven.
  • Cupcake Pan. Make sure you place the baking cups in the cupcake pan before pouring the batter into it.

You may already have these supplies, especially if you love baking different treats.

How to Keep Your Tye-dye Cupcakes Fresh

Keep the Tye Dye Cupcakes fresh by putting them in a large container, leaving a little bit of space between each cupcake to keep them from touching and getting messy.

You might not want to put a lid directly on top of the container because it could mess up the frosting. In that case, it is better to cover the container lightly with plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator to keep your cupcakes in the best condition.

Different Cupcake Icing Variations to Try

Make all different variations of the Tye Dye Cupcakes by using coffee creamers or various flavorings. Some of my favorite flavors are butter vanilla, cookie nip, strawberry, and candy flavors! A little goes a long way. You can also use different types of sprinkles on your cupcakes.
