What You’ll Need
Equipment
- Round, square, oval, or rectangular board
- 2–3 small bowls or ramekins (3 oz is perfect for dips)
- Cutting board
- Kid-safe knife or butter knife
- Serving tongs or mini spoons (optional)
Ingredients (Serves 8–10)

- ¼ cup ranch dressing
- ¼ cup whipped garlic & herb cream cheese
- ¼ cup vanilla yogurt
- 3 celery ribs
- ¼ cup dried cranberries
- ¼ head of broccoli, broken into small florets
- ½ cup yogurt-covered raisins (about 4 mini boxes)
- ½ cup Chex Mix
- 6 large strawberries, halved
- 3 cups baby carrots, sliced
- 1 cup sugar snap peas
- 1 package of golden butter crackers or butterfly-shaped crackers
🍽️ Optional Swaps: sliced cucumbers, radishes, grapes, hummus, cubed cheese, dried cherries or apricots
Let’s Build the Board!

1. Place Your Base Ingredients
Start by placing the celery ribs in the center or off to one side of the board like flower stems. Add your small bowls for dips (ranch, yogurt, and cream cheese) in a triangle formation around the celery.
👩👧👦 Younger Kids Can Help: Let kids choose where the bowls go and help plop dips into them with a small spoon.
2. Slice and Arrange the Carrots
Slice baby carrots in half to make flat petals. Place them around the two outside bowls to create carrot “flowers.”
🍽️ Chef Tip: You can stack a few together for fuller flowers or alternate directions to make a blooming effect.
👩👧👦 Younger Kids Can Help: Kids can line up the carrots like petals or help pass them to a grown-up for arranging.
3. Add the Strawberry Rows
Cut strawberries in half, then slice a small flat piece off the back so they lay down easily. Make two curved rows or scatter them like blooming red flowers.
👩👧👦 Parent Tip: Younger kids can help place strawberries, but grown-ups should do the slicing.
4. Sprinkle in the Sweet Touches
- Fill one bowl with yogurt-covered raisins
- Fill another with Chex Mix
- Add dried cranberries along the celery stalks to mimic springtime blooms
5. Fill in the “Grass”
Layer sugar snap peas across the bottom to look like fresh grass. Tuck in small broccoli florets for added texture and color.
6. Add Crackers Last
Line the edges of the board with crackers or place them in clusters. Keep them separate from moist fruits and veggies so they stay crisp.
👩👧👦 Younger Kids Can Help: Let kids be the “cracker decorators” and choose how to fan them out.
Pro Tips for Success
- Slice strawberries flat so they stay in place—no toothpicks needed.
- Keep it dry: Use crackers and babybel cheese as “barriers” between moist fruits and crisp items.
- Use what you have: Any flat platter, cutting board, or baking tray works!
Make It Your Own
- Add cheese cubes or salami for a more filling board
- Try spring-themed cookie cutters for fun cucumber or cheese shapes
- Use hummus or fruit dip instead of cream cheese and ranch
- Include mini pita or veggie straws for more variety
Tips for Grown-Ups Assisting
- Slice strawberries, carrots, and celery ahead of time to save time
- Let kids choose the “flower” layout and dip combinations
- Add labels or signs for each section if serving at a party
FAQ from Chefs-In-Training
Can I make this ahead of time?

What if I don’t have small bowls?
Use cupcake liners or silicone muffin cups to hold dips or small snacks.
Can I use different dips?
Of course! Try hummus, guacamole, peanut butter, French onion dip, or honey Greek yogurt.
How long will leftovers last?
Store in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Dips may need a quick stir before serving again.
