What is the Equipment Used for this Recipe?

  • Large stockpot. This will be used to cook the tomatoes. 
  • Medium pot. This will be used to simmer the mixture until it thickens. 
  • Mesh strainer. It will be used to strain liquids and remove the large ingredients from the fine ones.
  • Jars. This is for the container of the ketchup. 

What are Ingredients Needed?

Likewise, to make your homemade ketchup, the ingredients are as follows:  

  • Tomatoes. You will need 2.5 pounds to make 8 ounces of ketchup.
  • Garlic. Prepare one clove. 
  • Shallot. Diced ½ of this. 
  • Apple cider vinegar. Just ¼ cup. 
  • Allspice, Nutmeg, and Ginger. Just ¼ teaspoon for each of these. 
  • Black pepper. Prepare 1 teaspoon. 
  • Kosher salt. One tablespoon for this.

How to Make the Easy Homemade Ketchup?

There will only be five simple steps to follow to make this delicious ketchup. First, cook tomatoes on medium heat uncovered in a large stockpot for 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure to mash them to help them cook down.

Second, strain through a mesh strainer into a smaller pot and add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Third, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook until thick, stirring occasionally, for about an hour.

Lastly, puree them in a food processor or blender and transfer them to jars to cool. Just like that, you just made your very own ketchup that can be used in so many ways. Enjoy!

As your chef, I have some keynotes for your to remember as you prepare and set this ketchup. Firstly, this ketchup will keep for up to 2 weeks in the fridge. Secondly, white vinegar can be used in lieu of apple cider vinegar, but it will have more of a tang, this can be balanced with added sugar.

Also, if you prefer spicy ketchup add in more spices. Lastly, this is a small batch yield. If you have a larger family or just really love ketchup, double this recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 2.5 pounds tomatoes
