5 ways to eat healthy on a budget
When it comes to a healthy lifestyle there is one thing that often stands in our way, money! Or at least the opinion that you need a big budget in order to eat healthily and embrace an active lifestyle. However, I am here to tell you that isn’t necessarily the case. Often we can think outside of the box when it comes to being more active. We know that we can walk out of our houses and walk, jog or run for free. That we can utilize YouTube videos for workouts and there isn’t a real need for expensive gym memberships. But food can have us grappling with our bank balances more rapidly. However, it doesn’t have to be that way? Sure the perception is that healthy food can be expensive, but it is easy to eat healthy on a budget. With that in mind, here are some of the things you can do.

Cook from scratch
One of the first things to do would be to cook from scratch. Often the expense of eating healthily comes from buying convenience health foods. Such as meal kits or ready-made meals that just need the oven. Cooking from scratch means you cut out the cost of convenience and create a healthy meal which you know exactly what is in it.
Batch cook
A great way to save money when cooking from scratch is to batch cook. This means you buy ingredients in bulk, which can often reduce the cost, and create a batch of meals that can then be frozen. It avoids you from having to rely on convenience or take out foods when you have had a busy day. Knowing you have a healthy meal stored away ready to eat.

Shop seasonally and in local markets
Another thing to think about would be to shop seasonally and in local markets. Sometimes you can pay a premium for vegetables and fruit that aren’t in season. Local markets can also give you great deals on quantity.
Write a list and vary where you shop
A list is a great way to ensure you only buy what you need. It saves you doubling up and when you combine it with a meal plan, you can ensure that you are eating healthy and staying within your budget. A great tip is to also change up where you shop. Some stores will offer cheaper deals or prices on certain things.

Utilize Grocery Pick Up
This is probably my favorite tip of all. When you download your local grocery store app, you have a chance to really “shop around: without leaving home. Utilizing an effective meal plan will help you focus on purchasing only the things you need and then expanding. For example, if you purchase ground meat. You should be able to split it into more than one meal when you’re only feeding 1-2 people. You can use the same pack for burgers and chili or spaghetti and tacos. Think about complimentary meals when purchasing your groceries.
Hopefully, this has given you plenty of ideas on how you can eat healthy on a budget.
