Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes

Equipment

  • Large stock pot or heavy bottom pot
  • Piping bag or large ziplock bag
  • Paper towels for draining

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp melted butter

Topping option 1

  • 3-5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp per cup of sugar

Topping option 2

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg to a bowl and set aside.
  • In a separate bowl mix buttermilk, egg, sugar, vanilla and butter.
  • Slowly pour in the dry ingredients and mix until incorporated.
  • Add batter to a piping bag
  • Pipe dough balls into heated oil on medium high.
  • Remove once cooked and let dry on paper towels for 2-3 mins in a single layer
  • Toss in cinnamon sugar or cinnamon powdered sugar

Notes

When frying do tiny drops of batter into the oil (the batter will expand in the oil).
This will yield a very large amount of small donut holes. It’s best to let them dry in a single layer to help avoid an oily after taste in the ones on the bottom.
Let them dry completely before tossing in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar
