• 4 candy piping bags (insulated bags recommended for safety)

Ingredients

• 6 small candy canes
• 1 cup red melting wafers
• ¼ cup brown melting wafers
• ¼ cup white melting wafers
• Solid coconut oil
• Large candy eyeballs
• Holiday sprinkles
• Mini marshmallows

How to Make Hot Cocoa Oreo Pops

Prepare Your Chocolate

  1. Add red melting wafers to a microwave-safe bowl with 1 teaspoon coconut oil.
  2. Microwave in 30-second increments for 1.5–2 minutes, stirring after each round to prevent burning.
  3. If the chocolate feels thick, add a little more coconut oil until smooth.
  4. Set up your workstation with parchment paper.

👩‍👧‍👦 Parent Tip: Only adults should handle hot chocolate melts and microwaving. Kids can help prepare the parchment station.

Add the Sticks

  1. Dip the tip of each popsicle stick into the melted red chocolate.
  2. Gently press the stick into the cream layer of a mega stuffed Oreo.
  3. Let the cookies rest for 4–5 minutes to set.

🍽️ Chef Tip: Regular Oreos won’t hold the stick securely. Mega stuffed is the key.

Dip the Oreo Pops

  1. Once the stick is secure, dip the entire Oreo into the red chocolate.
  2. Tap gently to remove excess coating.
  3. Place each pop onto parchment and let them set for 10–15 minutes.

Add the Candy Cane Handle

  1. Break candy canes into small curved pieces.
  2. Use leftover red chocolate as “glue” to attach the candy cane to the side of each Oreo to form the mug handle.
  3. Set aside.

👩‍👧‍👦 Parent Tip: Kids can assist with holding each candy cane piece while an adult adds the melted chocolate.

Pipe the Top Layer

  1. Melt brown candy melts directly in an insulated piping bag: 30 seconds on one side, flip, another 30 seconds, then continue in 10-second increments until smooth.
  2. Snip the tip of the bag and pipe the brown chocolate over the top of each Oreo to look like hot cocoa.
  3. Immediately add sprinkles, mini marshmallows, and a small piece of candy cane.

Add the Face

  1. Melt leftover red candy for 15 seconds and transfer to a piping bag.
  2. Use the melted red chocolate to glue on candy eyeballs.
  3. Pipe a tiny “X” to form a heart-shaped smile.

Add Snowflakes

  1. Melt white chocolate in a piping bag.
  2. Pipe a simple snowflake: one line, an X, then a single line down the center.
  3. Stop piping before reaching the end—let the chocolate fall naturally.

Let your designs dry completely before packaging, gifting, or stacking for a display.

Pro Tips for Success

• Thin chocolate gives the smoothest dip—don’t skip the coconut oil.
• Keep decorations close so kids can work quickly before the chocolate sets.
• Place finished pops in the fridge for a few minutes to speed up setting.

Make It Your Own

• Use green or white melting wafers for holiday variations.
• Swap in mini gingerbread men as toppers instead of marshmallows.
• Add peppermint extract to the chocolate for extra holiday flavor.

Tips for Grown-Ups Assisting

• Handle all melting and piping bag heating.
• Pre-open candy bags and prepare each station so kids focus on decorating.
• If making these for a school event, place each pop in a treat bag once fully set.

FAQ from Chefs-In-Training

Can I use regular Oreos?
Not for pops—only mega stuffed Oreos give enough space for the stick to hold.

What if my chocolate cracks?
It simply cooled too fast. Dip again or warm the coating slightly.

Can kids make this whole recipe alone?
Ages 8+ can assist with most steps, but adults must handle all heated candy melts.
